Dale Sanders, SPOT Ambassador, 81-year-old paddler and world record holder, nominated for 2016 Spirit of Adventure Award

July 26, 2016 –– SPOT LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Globalstar Inc. and leader in satellite messaging and emergency notification technologies, will showcase its line of communications products at the 2016 Outdoor Retailer Summer Show in Salt Lake City, August 3 –6. SPOT’s affordable location-based messaging technology has been relied upon by the outdoor community since its inception in 2007, and is currently being used by customers to track their whereabouts, communicate while off-the-grid and initiate on average two rescues per day around the world completely independent of cellular coverage. During the show, SPOT devices will be FREE for attendees with the purchase of a service plan.

Last summer, SPOT Ambassador Dale Sanders made a 10-week solo canoe descent of the Mississippi River to raise awareness of juvenile diabetes and in doing so, not only raised $22,000 to help in this endeavor, but became the oldest man to solo paddle the river from source to sea. In addition to much training and preparation, Dale carried his SPOT Gen3® so that people could follow his tracking page and he’d have the ability to communicate beyond cellular, especially in an emergency. “I carry it for multiple reasons, but mostly because it gives me peace of mind knowing I have SPOT with me everywhere I go away from civilization.” Read more about Dale here.

Because of Dale's passion and dedication, he has been nominated for the 2016 "Spirit of Adventure" Award by Canoe and Kayak Magazine, which is awarded to the person or group who best embodies the spirit of adventure at the core of the sport. The winner will be announced at an award ceremony at Outdoor Retailer on August 4, where Dale hopes to continue to spread his powerful message, "Get out there and find some adventure you may have only dreamed of. Do it, no matter how little it might seem at first - rewarding surprises await at the other end."

Also reliant on SPOT technology are professional blind hiker Trevor Thomas and his guide dog Tennille, who both carry SPOT Gen3's. "Safety for Tennille and I is my priority when in the back country. No matter who you are, things can go wrong and my SPOT Gen3 is the most important piece of gear that I have to let folks know where I am and summon for assistance if needed," comments Thomas. "And should I truly be in a life-threatening situation – I can remember a few close calls – the S.O.S. button on my SPOT device will be there for me."

In addition, not only does adventurer Marisa Jarae rely on SPOT while in the backcountry, but she says it provides peace of mind for her family. "We were on Mt. Rainier for three nights. Every time we'd pitch camp or return back to the tent, I'd message my family with my SPOT Gen3, so they'd know we were ok. In glaciated terrain, where cell signal is spotty or non-existent, it is important to have a way to communicate with the outside world, if for no other reason than to be able to call for help if it is needed."

All SPOT products utilize the Globalstar network, the most modern mobile satellite network, ensuring reliable service well into the future. Stop by BOOTH #26006 to see the full SPOT lineup, including SPOT Gen3, SPOT Trace®, a small and affordable tracking device to keep tabs on valuable assets like boats, kayaks and ATVs, and the SPOT Global Phone, the smallest mobile handset on the market boasting crystal-clear calls and the industry’s fastest data speeds. As referenced above, SPOT devices will be FREE for show attendees with purchase of a service plan.
